A new record number of buyers - 15,279 - attended the recent All China Leather Exhibition (ACLE), China International Footwear Fair (CIFF) and Moda Shanghai. Widely regarded as the prime event for the international leather industry in China, ACLE, CIFF and Moda Shanghai, ran from 5 - 7 September, 2007 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre.

This year, there were 1,193 exhibiting companies, from 37 countries and regions, with 23 group pavilions. Total exhibition area was 57,500sqm.

As a gateway to the China market, for both domestic and overseas exhibitors, the majority of buyers came from the Shanghai area and nearby Zhejiang province. Interestingly, the number of buyers from Guandong province in the south provided the third largest contingent, up almost 12% over 2006.

Both buyers and exhibitors expressed generally up-beat sentiments.
First-time ExhibitorsMr. Vijay Thind, Manager of Leather Chemical Division, O'Laughlin Chemical Co Ltd, Hong Kong, said, "As a first-time exhibitor, we are quite happy with the results of the fair and will definitely participate again next year."

Mr. Yin Zhi Yong, General Manager, Shanghai Yin Science & Technology Co., Ltd. (the Holding Company of Shanghai Takatori Science & Technology Co., Ltd.), said, "It is the first time we are participating at ACLE and we have got a very satisfactory result. We met a lot of quality foreign companies with factories in Mainland China. Since there are growing needs for CAD/CAM machinery in the leather industry, we are confident and optimistic on the market. We will definitely come back next year."

Long-term ExhibitorsMr. Mike Dodd, Marketing Director, Pittards Plc, United Kingdom, said, "ACLE is a well-organised and successful fair. We are very satisfied that we met a lot of Chinese buyers from different provinces, plus Japanese and Korean buyers.

BuyersZhan Hai Fu, Shanghai Heng Da Xing Trade Co. Ltd, China, said, " I visit the fair because it provides a perfect window of the domestic market, and I am always on the lookout for new suppliers who can become trusted partners."Wei Bin Wen, Fujian Jingiang Zhaoheng Technology Co. Ltd, China, said, "These three industry trade fairs are, year after year, quickly becoming increasingly larger and more and more international."

CIFF was extremely successful with many of China’s best known and established footwear brands exhibiting a full display of their range. These included Kangnai, Aokang, Senda, etc., and reflected the booming domestic demand and their resolution to reach international markets.
DIARY NOTE: ACLE will be celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2008. ACLE, CIFF and Moda Shanghai will be held at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre, Pudong, from 3 - 5 September 2008.
